The exhibition in Hong Kong reveals the reasons for the high demand for sables in China

From March 12th to 14th, the Hong Kong International Fur and Fashion Fair 2026, one of the largest fur exhibitions in the world, was held in Hong Kong.

For the first time, the Ruspushnina auction house’s booth was presented at a similar event in Hong Kong last year. Russian commodity companies had never been represented with their own booth during the many years of the exhibition, which was first held in 1982.

This time, the event coincided with the leather exhibition and attracted a lot of attention from the fashion community. Ruspushnina’s booth became a point of interest for young Asian designers, particularly appealing to the youth audience.

It should be noted that the trend of actively using sable pelts in fashion products began to recover last year. This year, this trend has finally established itself as the dominant one in its niche. Previously, we observed a more frequent use of sable in the production of fur coats and accessories; today, sable‑based products have become the dominant force in the fashion fur market. The primary driver of this trend is the Asian market, with China’s fashion community playing a leading role.

Some of the key results of the exhibition included:

increased involvement of new companies in the fur business and their active development, particularly those from China;
reaffirmation of the leadership position of several traditional major buyers, who retained prominent positions in the exhibition hall;
optimism among participating auction houses regarding further market development — including Ruspushnina, American Mink Exchange, Fur Harvesters, and Saga Furs;
a positive perception of the industry’s progress in overcoming the pandemic and post‑pandemic crisis.

The main outcome is the growing interest in natural fur (and sable in particular) among the youth audience. Thanks to the active use of social networks, the trend is gaining momentum like a snowball, attracting new participants at a rapid pace: a third of the stands at the Hong Kong exhibition featured live streaming on well‑known Asian platforms, showcasing the beauty of natural fur products.
